Welcome to the Department of Economics!
The Department of Economics (DOE) is in the School of Business and Economics, situated at the Kitui Town Campus. It offers two undergraduate programs and one postgraduate (master’s) program. The master’s program was approved by the University Senate and is awaiting approval by the Commission for University Education (CUE). Our curriculum has ensured that key areas in economics have been strongly represented in terms of teaching and research. We aim at empowering our students to tackle pertinent socio-economic issues at the country, regional and international levels. Our academic programs equip students with economic concepts that enable them address contemporary issues of sustainable production and consumption, inflation, poverty, inequality, sustained economic growth, and sustainable development.
The Department works closely with the Department of Management Science and Department of Business and Entrepreneurship, which are also in the School of Business and Economics. We also partner with departments in other schools to equip our students with knowledge and skills that complement economics. The Department of Economics services other departments to empower students from other disciplines with fundamental economic principles. The Department has competent staff with diverse specializations including Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Economic Theory, Agricultural Economics, Development Economics, and Econometrics among others. Our staff members are actively engaged in economic research and are widely published in credible peer-reviewed journals.
